DESCRIPTION

This brief summarises the service levels and performance of piped water services in rural Indonesia, including piped water services established under the Government of Indonesia PAMSIMAS programme (Penyediaan Air Minum dan Sanitasi Berbasis Masyarakat). The analysis drew on data from multiple sources, including the PAMSIMAS Management Information System (specific to PAMSIMAS-funded systems) and national surveys that likely cover both PAMSIMAS- and non-PAMSIMAS systems, including the Indonesian Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS, 1994 – 2017), the National Drinking Water Quality Survey (SKAM-RT, 2020), and the Indonesia National Socioeconomic Surveys (SUSENAS). The analysis examined rural water service levels at a provincial scale, identifying key challenges in relation to system functionality, reliability and water quality.
