For many women, water is a necessity in everyday life, from the moment they wake up to when they return to rest. Managing water for cooking, cleaning, bathing, and the needs of the family makes women among the people who understand most deeply what it means when water is scarce.

Sukalaksana Village, Samarang, Garut, once faced with such scarcity. Bu Siti, alongside other women of village, fought to change this reality through their action. Driven by the need for reliable water at home, the women began working to bring clean water into the kitchens. Together with fellow residents, she spent years pursuing a more dependable water supply.

Her persistence eventually brought more than water to village households. The local spring became the foundation for a tourism village, creating a new source of income for the village and contributing revenue to the local village enterprise or BUMDes.

What began as a struggle to bring water into the kitchen has grown into something much bigger.

Mrs. Siti’s story proof that women can, dare to say must, play a powerful role in community development when they are given the opportunity. While the traditional role of managing resources has fallen to men within the area, the abundant flow of water in Sukalaksana is a testimony to what women can bring to the table.
